Dragonfly Love

My husbands mother passed away a few weeks ago. I knew the day before we got the call... It was Saturday morning and we were waiting for a parking place in the lot at Waimea Bay. I couldn't help but notice this dragonfly buzzing back and forth over our car and hovering around each of our windows, it was unusual and got my attention. I said to my husband, look at the dragonfly... at that moment I felt my mother in laws energy so filled with love and light and joy. I just knew it was a message from her.
Since that day, we've been seeing a dragonfly everywhere we go, I don't recall ever seeing  one in Hawaii before. We've been seeing them buzz by the bedroom window, pass over us on the beach, hover over our car, and one stopped in the window of a construction job my husband was recently working on.  He opened the window to let it out and it stayed for a few minutes before leaving. We found out from my husbands sister that their mother was given the nickname Dragonfly by her co-worker years ago!!
This is what I found online about the Dragonfly :

Dragonfly symbolism crosses and combines with that of the butterfly and change. The dragonfly symbolizes going past self-created illusions that limit our growing and changing. Dragonflies are a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity.

They are fantastic flyers, darting like light, twisting, turning, changing direction, even going backwards as the need arises. They are inhabitants of two realms - starting with water, and moving to the air with maturity, but staying close to water. Some people who have the dragonfly as their totem have had emotional and passionate early years, but as they get older they achieve balance with mental clarity and control. They gain an expression of the emotional and mental together.

Dragonflies are old and adaptive insects, and are most powerful in the summer under the effects of warmth and sunlight. Their colors are a result of reflecting and refracting the power of light. As a result, they are associated with color magic, illusion in causing others only to see what you wish, and other mysticism.

The are often represented in Japanese paintings, representing new light and joy. To some Native Americans they are the souls of the dead. Fairy stories say that they used to be real dragons.

Dragonflies are reminders that we are light and can reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so. "Let there be light" is the divine prompting to use the creative imagination as a force within your life. They help you to see through your illusions and allow your own light to shine in a new vision.

UPDATE: THIS IS REALLY COOL!!!!! Today is the one year anniversary of my husband's mother passing away. I didn't remember it was the day she died until my husband told me later in the evening. So I said in my mind to my mother in law...if you're there give me an undeniable sign, it was dark so I didn't think I would be seeing a dragonfly flying around. I forgot about it all and had a funny little poem about a gecko come to me, wrote it down then looked online for a picture of a gecko to go with my poem. I found the gecko pic I wanted and this page below popped up instead...here's my undeniable evidence! LOVE love love it!! http://www.dragonflyranch.com/

May The Love Of Christmas Be In Your Heart Everyday

Love is a choice we make, each moment of each day.
We can let it shine everyday with anyone and everyone, or we can let it simmer until we decide to let it shine on special occasions like Christmas, weddings, anniversaries, Valentines Day, births, deaths, etc.
Wishing you all a wonderful love filled holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas or not. Love doesn't need a reason or a season.
Let your love light shine!

Being in the Caribbean and hearing Reggae music everywhere we go has reminded me of the Reggae style Christmas song that my husband and I recorded one year.
My husband Ken, and I, along with two of our kids and some friends, all collaborated to create this heartfelt song that I titled "Christmas Love." We recorded it about 8 years ago, without rehearsing or any dubbing of background noises etc. so there's a lot of hissing with some of the words. It sounds like a combination of Alvin And The Chipmunks and The Little Rascals singing but hey, it's the intention that counts...right?
I wrote the words, my husband wrote the music and played the beautiful guitar chords (he's an incredible guitarist) my step-son Chase played the cool keyboard (he's also a very talented musician)
and all of us, along with my son Michael, and some of our good friends, are singing.
It's comical but love filled. We had a lot of fun making it.

Persistence Pays

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

-Calvin Coolidge

Publishing my book has been quite the journey.
I never realized how much work went into getting something into print. I thought writing it was the work...was I ever naive!
There are so many steps that are required and if you want to see it completed you can't stop or put it off until later.
I've been working on publishing my short childrens book for over a year now. It's made me think about, and appreciate what kind of work goes into a novel...or a movie and even recording a song.
Getting all the images in order and designing the interior for my 42 page book has taken much more time than I ever imagined. We've been editing for months and there seems to always be one last thing! It's been fun, exciting, exhausting both mentally and physically, sitting in front of the computer editing day after day.
It's also been the most rewarding thing I've ever done.To see a dream of having a story that I love turned into a book. A book that will be around forever, for future generations to enjoy.
So today's topic is on persistence.
Persistence does pay off. If it's something you love and want badly enough, you will persist AND you will accomplish your goals and desires.
Here's some info that helped me along the way.

An audio tutorial called Healthy, Wealthy and Wise by Derrick Sweet.

Some Encouraging Quotes On Persistence:

Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.

- Barack Obama

-- Marilyn vos Savant

Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Flirting With Love

Love is a funny thing.
It's what we are...we all have it in us, we all want more of it and we all have the choice to use it's power or ignore it.
I've been flirting with love lately.
Looking for ways to feel good and excuses to put my love out there, into the world.
Appreciating the beauty around me is one way I've found to play with love.
I've noticed butterflies everywhere I go since I've been doing this. It's pretty amazing actually.
One day while sitting outside, I saw a beautiful butterfly dancing from flower to flower. Then I started seeing butterflies everywhere I went. I've even witnessed them fly by while riding in the car!
A couple of days ago while sitting by the pool, I noticed a big beautifully colored butterfly fluttering by me. I put my attention on it and it came closer and then flew above me and all around me while I was admiring it. I've seen it for several days now flying about and hovering on a flower or a shrub. When I've come near, it has stayed on the flower, flapping it's beautiful wings. I've been able to observe it up close and see all the intricate patterns and colors. Nature is amazing with detail.
Another fun thing I've been doing when out in the world, is looking for people to play with.
Babies are the best mark and are always eager to play.
A few days ago my husband and I were at the market grocery shopping. We saw a really cute baby, about a year old, in a shopping cart. The adults she was with had their attention on shopping and she was looking around for some fun.
My husband and I played with her by smiling and walking away, then turning back to smile at her again. She lit up with a huge smile. A minute later we turned the corner and there they were in the next aisle. We smiled at her again and she burst out in a joyous laugh.
It was fun and clearly made us all feel better!
We have the ability to turn this on anywhere we are. What a wonderful thing love is.

Today I appreciate love,
I appreciate knowing I can choose to feel love
and that I have an abundance of love to give away.
I appreciate those that share their love.

Be Happy

Isn't that what it's all about?
Enjoying our lives, feeling good, being HAPPY.
Feeling good is what motivates us to do what we do. It's really what we all seek.
We think if we had enough money or the right relationship or didn't have to do this or that,
or had more of this or that, THEN we would be happy.
We all have excuses for WHY we're not happy and WHY we're not living a life we love.
Today...instead of having excuses for NOT having what you want, and reasons for not being happy NOW, look at all the ways you CAN have what you want and ways you CAN be happy, right here, right now.
Quit blaming other people and situations for your unhappiness and start creating your life the way you want it to be.
NOW is all we ever have, so you may as well make the best of it and while you're at it, mock up the future as being how you want it to be.
You CAN be happy AND you CAN have your life be what you want.
It's up to YOU to create it that way. It's all YOU.
The way you see your world is how you choose to view it.

Here's a video clip of what Abraham-Hicks has to say about being happy:

Here's a video clip of Bobby McFerrin singing "Don't Worry Be Happy"

Here's are some good articles I found on Google:

Create your own happiness

By SALLY ANDERSON
Published June 24, 2003

Dale Carnegie once said, "Happiness doesn't depend on who you are or what you have. It depends solely on what you think."
While no one can expect to be happy all the time, there are some people who seem to radiate happiness more than others.
It's not that happy people are unaware of life's downs, but they have learned how to balance the bad with the good. They are better able to cope with anxiety and distress.
Unhappy people approach life with a different mind set. They often place the blame for their unhappiness on something or someone other than themselves. They tend to become cynical and have difficulty trusting others.
True happiness has little to do with money or material things, but has more to do with how you nurture your mind.
If you want to bring more happiness into your life, start by investigating some of the negative habits you have been harboring. Once we create the habits, the habits then create us.
Here are strategies that could help boost your happiness level.
1. Take charge of your feelings.
Recognize the value in working toward your own happiness and assume responsibility for your actions and feelings. Do not waste time feeling like you are a victim; it's better to take charge and focus on ways to solve your problems.
2. Learn to deal with negative emotions.
Anger and anxiety are the No. 1 enemies of happiness. When they occur, don't deny the feelings, acknowledge them, then step back and give yourself a time-out by counting to 10 and taking deep breaths. This will help you regain control of most situations; patience and tolerance are antidotes to negative mind sets.
3. Energize your life.
Research has shown that when people lack energy, they worry excessively and the most minor problems seem insurmountable. By contrast, high energy creates upbeat, positive moods.
Exercise can make you feel better by reducing tension and increasing your energy level. When your energy level is low, go for a 10-minute walk. Energy begets energy; if you put a little energy into motion, you will receive double energy in return.
4. Give out a little sunshine.
Acts of personal kindness such as paying a compliment to someone, sharing in a conversation or just taking time to listen might make someone's day a little brighter.
5. Put on a friendly face.
Smiling, even when you don't feel like it, will make you feel better. Project the mood that you want to feel; positive actions produce positive emotions.
6. Think gratitude.
Count your blessings. Make a list of all the things you have to be thankful for: family, friends, home, etc. Then write a gratitude list, include everything that happened during the day, for which you can be grateful.
7. Choose to be an optimist.
Attitude is everything. How you react to situations is your choice. Optimists have a sense of control. They believe good things will last a long time and they label bad things as temporary events.
A pessimist suffers from what psychologist call "learned helplessness" - always expecting the worse. If you tend to be a pessimist, set aside one day a week where you start to confront the habit. On that day, try not to criticize or complain.
8. Make lemonade out of lemons.
Choose to turn problems into opportunities. After you have dealt with the problem, ask yourself what have you gained from the experience and how can you grow from it.
9. Find a hobby.
Hobbies give you a reprieve from the daily responsibilities of life, by helping you to downshift from the stresses of daily living.
10. Be realistic in your expectations.
Many people believe they can alter their unhappy feelings through the love of another person. It is unrealistic to expect others to be responsible for your happiness. You may receive support from a loved one, but you are the only person accountable for creating your own happiness.
Make today the best it can be.
Make TODAY the BEST DAY EVER!

Today I appreciate the love I feel and have in my life,
I appreciate knowing I'm responsible for creating what I have in my life,
I appreciate that not everyone wants to take responsibility for creating their own life,
I appreciate the contrast and that I can always choose,

I appreciate my health and well being.

Living With Passion

Living with passion gives meaning to ones life.
To be passionate means to live from your center, your heart and your soul. Because the term evokes different emotions in different people- excitement, meaning, love, commitment, enthusiasm, delight, fervor, wild abandon - before we can integrate passion into our lives, we first need to know what stirs it in us.
It doesn't mean you have to love everything you do, but to have at least one driving force that keeps you going. Something to look forward to.
When you're passionate about what you do, you can't wait to get out of bed each morning and start your day.Work really can be like play instead of drudgery, that we drag ourselves off to and count the minutes until we can be released from the torture we've endured.
When you love what you do for work, to earn a living, then every day becomes exciting and a new adventure! You can work for hours and it feels like minutes. The time really does fly when you're having fun.You know when you're doing what you love when you'd keep on doing it even if you didn't get paid. Usually when you love what you do the money follows.
There's a book by Marsha Sinetar called "Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow"
http://www.amazon.com/What-Love-Money-Will-Follow/dp/0440501601
Some say that we should make the best of any situation and our attitude is what matters.
I agree and I also believe if we all followed our passion and were true to ourselves then we wouldn't have to try to make the best out of the situation...it would be the best situation!
A world full of people following their bliss would be a world full of happier people.
There's a reason we like doing what we're passionate about. It's the souls way of saying what your life purpose is, it's your self expression. We all have something to contribute, something we're good at. What are YOU good at? What are YOU passionate about?
The people that I see enjoying their lives the most, are those that have created MORE of what they love in their everyday lives and LESS of what they don't enjoy.
Joseph Campbell says:
“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls”

Believe...

Today is Fathers Day and it felt like a good time to tell my believe in your dreams story.
My mother and father married at a very young age, my mom was 15 and he was 17.
My mom was pregnant with my brother and then 2 years later my sister came along...then my father left our family when my mom was pregnant with me. He had met another woman and took off with her. They later married and had children together. I saw my father only once when I was a baby and then again when I was 3 years old. I remember that time vividly. While visiting my grandfather one day, with my brother and sister, he came by to visit and I sat on his lap. I remember thinking, He's not such a bad guy, he smells good and has a nice voice. He was nothing like how I heard my mom speak of him (even though I was only three years old I got it that my mom didn't like this guy much .)
I never knew any of the other children, and I never got to know my father. He disappeared and that was that.
My mom remarried and we all had a very nice life.
I always wondered where my father ended up and what his life was like, what he was like. I'd heard about the other family he had and was curious who they were and if they knew about us.
I started to look for all of them about 10 years ago. It was a little over 2 years ago when I was looking my fathers name up online, once again nothing came up. I decided to Google the name of the lady he married, her name came up under an obituary. Her stepfather had passed away and her name along with her sisters name was listed. Her sisters name was listed as living in Hawaii.
I live in Hawaii so I immediately looked her sisters name up in the phone book and found a phone number for her.
I called her and she told me about the other children my father had. There were 4 of them.
Three girls and a boy.She said that the oldest girl, Patti would be the most likely to want to contact me.
I gave her my phone number and she gave it to Patti. Within a few days Patti called me. We talked for a long time exchanging information. She had lived with my father up until she was 14 years old and then he left all of them. No one had any idea where he went or if he was even still living. It had been over 30 years since anyone had any contact with him.
It was nice to hear things about him that I never knew, that he was very artistic and could sing, and that they had horses and a boat and he liked to water ski.Patti loved her dad. (which was my dad too, but to me just biologically, since I really never knew him ) She was heartbroken when he left her and had been searching for him for years.
She had joined one of those sites online that gathers information about people and was hoping to find out something that way.I had been reading Abraham-Hicks and listening to their tapes almost daily for awhile. I just knew if I believed I would find my father, if he was still alive that we would reunite.
Once I found my sister Patti and we teamed up that desire felt even stronger. It was about a year after Patti and I had been talking on the phone that I got the call from her. She said "You're not going to believe this...I have a phone number for him and an address, remember...we had NO idea where he was or if he was even alive. She said. "He lives in Hawaii!" I could hardly believe it, but then again after being introduced to the Abraham material I could believe it.
I had been experiencing miracles (that I've come to realize are how life is meant to be) happening all the time, so this was in alignment with that.
I said okay, give me the phone number and I'll call. Patti wasn't ready to call him herself, she had a lot of emotions to sort out, so I was the one to contact him. I was excited at the prospect of satisfying my curiosity for the past 45 years. I wasn't angry or hurt just thrilled that he was still alive and I was getting the chance I had been wanting all of these years to meet my DAD...the other half, who helped bring me into this world. I figured if he created ME then he couldn't be all that bad, I turned out alright!
So she gave me the phone number and then the address. When I heard the address I just KNEW that The Law Of Attraction is real and that there IS a higher power and that we CAN create what we want in our lives because...
NOW GET THIS...my dad was living on the same Island that I was on and only 40 minutes away!
I called the phone number without any hesitation...HE answered...I told him who I was and he was floored! It seemed surreal.
We talked for awhile and then met the next day at his home. It felt natural and comfortable from the first time we re-united.
It was never awkward. I don't have the bond with him that I have with my mom, and I don't expect to.
It's probably more like someone that has been adopted, meeting their birth parents for the first time.
He seems familiar to me and also loving, like family...but more like an Uncle. He lives with a long term girlfriend, who is wonderful. I'm appreciating the relationship for what it is and that we get to have this time together.
So BELIEVE in your dreams everyone!
The Universe and Law of Attraction WANTS to give us what we want..what we desire and what we dream!
Happy Fathers Day.
~Aloha

Today I appreciate everyone I love and that loves me.
I appreciate my mom and her love and support.
I appreciate my step father who supported me.
I appreciate my biological father for getting me here.
I appreciate the law of attraction and all the fun I'm having.

Appreciation And Self Love

Give yourself some flowers!
Grow them, pick them or buy some for your own enjoyment. It's a nice thing to do for yourself. While you're at it give some away to someone you appreciate. These are freesias, my personal favorite.
"Appreciation and self-love are the most important tools that you could ever nurture. Appreciation of others, and the appreciation of yourself is the closest vibrational match to your Source Energy of anything that we've ever witnessed anywhere in the Universe"

A Mothers Love

Today is Mothers Day and in many ways it was a really beautiful day. I spent time with my husband and some friends snorkeling. We spent all weekend hiking, snorkeling, sharing meals, laughing together and watching a fun tribute to James Taylor on DVD. I received a lovely card from my loving husband and a very heartfelt expressive card from my sweetheart son along with a Barnes and Noble gift card. Yeah...smart guy!
The not so feel good part of this day is the wound in my heart from my daughter not wanting to relate with me right now. My daughter Amber, who is now 27 was calling me at least once a day for a very long time. We were very close not only as mother-daughter but as friends.
It was a relationship I valued and was a fulfilling part of my life. Over a year ago the phone calls stopped abruptly. I called to find out why and got no response. She refuses to let me know why and has cut off all contact. She does relate with her grandmother (my mother) but will not tell her the reason why either. I haven't given up trying to communicate with her.
It has been the most devastating, hurtful thing I've ever dealt with in my life.So today on Mothers Day I feel part of my heart full and a part of my heart empty and sad. It is an interesting place to be.
I continue to enjoy my life and continue to have fun. There still is, always that place that is sad and I'm not sure what to do with the feelings of loss. It's not like I can mourn and get over it like with a death, because she is not dead but then I really don't know if she will ever want to be in my life again and I don't know why. It's been pure torture.
A Mothers Love is unconditional. When you've been a mother you open your heart beyond belief and that includes being vulnerable to having your heart broken and part of mine has a deep crack in it right now.
Well the universe has an interesting way of helping us deal with things. This morning I was walking on the beach with a friend and we met a young man (about my daughters age) sitting on the beach. He's originally from Italy but now lives in Hawaii. He mentioned that he missed things about Italy and that he really missed his mom. On my walk I had picked up 4 pieces of coral that were shaped like hearts. I collect heart shaped rocks and coral. I reached into my pocket and handed him a heart shaped coral and told him it was from his mother. I told him to remember that a mothers love is always in your heart no matter where she might be. He almost cried and put his hand over his heart and said he had goose bumps. It touched me to be able to touch him that way.
I believe things happen for a reason and that I 'm responsible for all that comes my way on some level. Some positive things with the situation with my daughter are that she is still living, she's not using drugs and is a hard working responsible person. We've shared a lot of loving, fun, good times together that I appreciate.
I've realized that I don't need to have the person be present to love them. I 've learned to continue to love and enjoy my life even in an emotionally challenging time.
I trust that all will turn out even better than it was before and that there is light at the end of this tunnel.

If Not Now,When?

If Not Now,When?
This is a question we all ask ourselves. We dream,we hope, we plan, we put off till tomorrow.
We say someday...If we don't start living the life we love now then when? When is someday?
When you know you're taking the steps towards what you really, really want and actually seeing that you're getting there, that makes life much more fun and exciting. You gain energy and enthusiasm. You have more to give to help others achieve their goals.
It's not necessary to drag yourself through life day after day just getting through another day.
I encourage you to GO FOR IT!
What is YOUR dream.? What is YOUR vision?
What would it take to live the life you've always wanted?
What steps are you going to start taking to have the life YOU love?
